It is the call of our culture to climb the ladder of power and authority. Many people find their life purpose in that pursuit. We use others to get what we want and invest in relationships only if it benefits us to do so. Yet Jesus had a different pathway to power and influence. Christ's path was paved with service and sacrifice. Christ not only served but was also a servant. His actions came out of his character, out of who he was.
Positions of power and authority are honorable positions to hold. However, the attitude of entitlement that comes with those positions is something we need to let go of. When we take the past of Christ, seeking to serve and sacrifice for the sake of others, we will create a culture that reflects the kingdom.
God, give me the eyes to see the ways I can be a servant today. Give me the courage to step into those opportunities. Help me develop the habit of helping others, so service and sacrifice become a natural rhythm of my life. Amen
